At around 10pm on Tuesday 20th October 2009 a fire started in the Maldon station. Over half the roof was destroyed along with the internals in the West end. These photos show the aftermath on Wednesday 21st October.
Even with the station unusable, the usual Wednesday service still operated. K160 is seen on the last train of the day.
K160 departs for Castlemaine.
Quite a remarkable save was this ticket tube. Despite being in one of the rooms gutted by the fire, it only recieved charring on the outside!
Looking inside the Station Master/ticket office.
One of the ornate ceiling fixtures recovered.
A view of the front.
The ticket window. Apart from some ash it looks like you could still buy tickets.
A view from the yard. The roof damage is clearly visable.
